Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center
For more than 40 years, the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center has made a vital difference in the lives of thousands of young people. As the largest provider of outpatient adolescent health services in the country, the Center offers free, integrated services to an otherwise underserved population of adolescents, ages 10 to 22, from the five boroughs of New York City and beyond.
Each year, the Center serves more than 10,000 patients making more than 45,000 visits annually. The expert staff and wraparound services provide physical, reproductive, and mental health care while encouraging patients to become full partners in their care.
“We start where each adolescent is. We encourage kids to come and share their lives with us even if those lives include abuse or other issues that are extremely hard to talk about. Once they are willing to do that, we can address all their health issues and build long-term relationships,” says Director, Dr. Angela Diaz.
Additionally, as an academic medical center, the Center is a major training site for adolescent health care professionals from around the world. Adolescent medicine fellows, residents, medical students, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, health educators, and other health professionals are trained to provide adolescent specific care. The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center also conducts research and disseminates information geared toward policy making, health promotion, and the treatment and prevention of disease in adolescents.
